Tourism Information

The Rural Municipality of Reynolds, consisting of 1,333 sections of land is situated in the eastern corner of the Province. The population of 1298 is comprised of small hamlets namely Richer East, Ste. Rita, Molson, Rennie, Hadashville, Prawda, McMunn and East Braintree. Reynolds has alot to offer a river enthusiast
The river systems found in the municipality are the Brokenhead, the Rennie, the Hazel, the Whitemouth, the Birch and the Boggy. There are four major highways passing through the municipality: PTH #1 (Trans Canada), PTH #15, PTH #11 and PTH #44. There are also three railway companies in the municipality: Canadian National, Canadian Pacific and the Greater Winnipeg Water District. There are four community centres and one heritage site. There are four forest reserves within the RM of Reynolds. These reserves being the Sandilands, Agassiz, Whiteshell and North West Angle take up much of the land in the municipality. The land types vary in the municipality. From gravel/sand to peat to forest to farmland.

We invite you to travel and capture the beauty and peace of nature, consisting of bogs, meadows, trees, rocks, various species of plants and wildlife throughout the RM of Reynolds. Enjoy the outdoors and camp along the Whitemouth and Birch Rivers at the Whitemouth River Campground and Pinetree Campground. Stop and tour the museum situated in the Sandilands Forest Reserve sponsored by the Manitoba Forestry Association or admire natures best by venturing on the hiking trail. If you enjoy cross country skiing, then ski the trails through the pines in the Sandilands Forest Reserve. Brave the cold and snowmobile the trails south of the Trans Canada Highway. Be adventurous and explore the Whitemouth, Birch and Boggy Rivers by canoe. For the most advanced canoeist, experience natures most undisturbed waters of the Whitemouth River through the Whitemouth River Ecological Reserve. Take home a catch of the day, by fishing at the Reynolds Trout Ponds. Venture on Provincial Road 404 through the Pocock Ecological Reserve and see the last known species of the Ironwood tree. If you are searching for that special gift for someone, stop at Geppetto’s along Trans Canada Highway. Here you will find an assortment of wooden craft-ware. Before entering the Whiteshell Provincial Park, stop at East Braintree and visit the Midwinter School. This school was built in 1917, restored and designated as a Heritage Site in 1990. Travel to the most northeast corner of the District, to a small community of Rennie, known as the Gateway to the Whiteshell. Enjoy the scenic view of Canada geese and other water birds at the resting and feeding grounds of the Alfred Hole Goose Sanctuary.

Further your enjoyment by taking a hike on the edge of the Canadian Shield through the Whiteshell Provincial Forest at the Goose Sanctuary.

Whichever outdoor desire you may have including hiking, canoeing, fishing, camping, hunting, cross country skiing, or snowmobiling, you’ll be sure to find it through the Rural Municipality of Reynolds. When travelling through our Municipality, be sure to stop at any one of the restaurants or spend the night at any one of the hotel/motels along Highway # 44 and the Trans Canada Highway.

The month of July features the  community of Ste. Rita hosting an annual picnic featuring baseball activities, children’s games, beer gardens, and bingo.

Richer East      Top

The hamlet of Richer East is located along the west boundary of the municipality. The development of Richer East is between the Dawson Road and the Trans Canada Highway. The Brokenhead River can be found on the east end of this small hamlet. The population of this hamlet is approximately 150. The businesses within this community and fronting Trans Canada is the Maple Inn (service station & restaurant) and Geppetto’s (wooden craftware shop). For any medical needs or food supplies, residents travel to nearby Richer, Ste. Anne, Steinbach or Winnipeg. The children of this community travel to schools in Richer, Ste. Anne and Steinbach to receive their education. The Richer Fire Brigade provides fire protection for the residents in Richer East.

 

Ste. Rita      Top

The hamlet of Ste. Rita located on PTH #15, is also along the west boundary of the municipality. This small community has a population of 140. The businesses here are mostly forest product related. The Hazel Creek passes through the north side of Ste. Rita. forrest.jpg (10000 bytes)
The Canadian National railway is situated on the south side of Ste. Rita. The community club known as the Ste. Rita Friendly Hands Club hosts a number of events throughout the year and the Roman Catholic Church provides a place for worship. Once again for any medical needs, residents travel to Beausejour or Winnipeg. For food supplies, people travel to Beausejour, Anola, Dugald, Oakbank and Winnipeg. There are no schools in Ste. Rita; however children are bussed to Anola, Dugald and Oakbank. The Springfield Fire Department provides fire protection for the residents in Ste. Rita.

 

Molson/Julius     Top

fields.jpg (12222 bytes) Molson/Julius with a population of 170 is found in the northwest corner of the municipality. Molson is located between PTH #44 and the Canadian Pacific Railway. Residents of Molson find employment in nearby Julius at the Sun Gro Horticultural plant (peat moss mining) or in communities of Beausejour, Lac du Bonnet.
There is also some farming activity taking place in Molson/Julius. Nearby Molson are large gravel pits which supply several contractors with gravel, sand, etc. There are no grocery stores or schools in Molson. The residents travel to Beausejour or Whitemouth for food supplies. Students are bussed either to Beausejour or Whitemouth for their educational needs. The Beausejour/Brokenhead Fire Department provides fire protection for the residents in Molson and the Whitemouth Fire Department provides fire protection for the residents in Julius.

 

Rennie     Top

Rennie located along PTH #44 and in the northeast corner of the municipality has a population of 120. Rennie is located adjacent to the Whiteshell Provincial Park. In the hamlet of Rennie, you will find a general store (Rennie General Store), a gas bar (Granite Bay Variety), a hotel (Rennie Hotel), a post office and a campground (Stony Pine). A community club known as the Rennie Community Club hosts several activities throughout the year. alfhole.jpg (19113 bytes)
renniebusiness.jpg (17787 bytes) The Canadian Pacific railway passes through the hamlet of Rennie. Children are bussed to Whitemouth School for their education needs. For any medical needs, residents travel to Whitemouth, Pinawa, Beausejour or Winnipeg. Rennie is also home to the Alf Hole Goose Sanctuary  and the Trappers Museum which host many visitors from afar.
Not only will you find hundreds of geese at the Sanctuary, but you will find a museum and a hiking trail. Fire protection is provided by the Whitemouth Fire Department. 

 

Hadashville     Top

Hadashville with a population of 320 is situated along Trans Canada Highway and No. 11 Highway. Hadashville is found in the middle of the municipality. Most of the development of Hadashville has taken place along the Whitemouth River. festive2.jpg (13766 bytes)
In Hadashville, you will find a grocery store (Fine Foods), a post office, a hotel/motel (Parkview Inn), a motel (Riverside Motel), Ukrainian and Roman Catholic Churches, a forest tree nursery (Pineland Forest Nursery), a peat moss operation (Sun Gro Horticulture),  a campground (Whitemouth River), a community club (Reynolds Recreational Centre) Highways Department, and MB Conservation. Other activities occurring in Hadashville would be farming, logging, trucking, air conditioning / refrigeration services, a floral greenhouse and strawberry u-pick farms and excavation services. There is also a cross country ski trails and a museum located in the Sandilands Forest Reserve. The Trans Canada Pipeline provides natural gas to Pineland Forest Nursery. Currently there is the possibility of supplying gas to other communities north of the Nursery including Hadashville.
river1.jpg (16544 bytes) The Greater Winnipeg Water District is the railway company that passes through Hadashville. This line is only extended from Winnipeg to Shoal Lake in Ontario.  Children are bussed to Reynolds Elementary School (K to Grade 6) in Prawda and to Whitemouth School (Grade 7 to 12).

Residents travel to Ste. Anne, Steinbach, Whitemouth or Winnipeg for their medical needs. Fire protection is provided by the Whitemouth Fire Department. 

 

Prawda     Top

The hamlet of Prawda is located along the Trans Canada Highway and the Birch River. The population of this community is 220. Here in Prawda, you will find two service stations/convenience store & restaurants (Birchwood Esso and Prawda Shell), and a campground (Pinetree), prawda.jpg (8864 bytes)

As well, Prawda is also home to a livestock feed store (Trails End Livestock), satellite services (Bert's Satellite),  plumber (Kuharski Bros.) Nurseries (Bilan Tree Nursery, NJ Enterprises, Pips River Nursery), a community club (Reynolds Community Club) and an elementary school Grades K to 6 (Reynolds Elementary School). Children are then bussed to Whitemouth for further education. Farming activities also take place in Prawda. Residents travel to Whitemouth, Ste. Anne, Steinbach, or Winnipeg for medical needs. A volunteer fire department has been established with construction of a fire hall set for the fall of 2004.  The Whitemouth Fire Department provides firefighting assistance when required. The Reynolds Ambulance Service is stationed in Prawda and serves the surrounding communities Spruce Siding, Medika, Hadashville, Prawda, McMunn, and East Braintree.

 

McMunn and East Braintree     Top

McMunn and East Braintree is located on the most eastern edge of the municipality along the Trans Canada Highway and Provincial Road 308. The population of these two hamlets is 180. In McMunn, you will find satellite/computer technician (River Satellites), Nelda’s Cinnamon Bun Bakery, craft shop (Birch River Crafts), welding/repair shop (Birch River Enterprises), pulp cutting/shipping (Nakka Trucking and Anderson Trucking), and a sawmill (Feilberg Enterprises) and Braintree Sawmill Co.  In East Braintree, you will find a motel (Whiteshell Motel), plumber (Birch River Plumbing & Heating), electronics store (Maple Place Electronics), pulp cutting/shipping (Shelyn Forest Products), a piloting service for oversize loads (R. Karalash Enterprises) and the East Braintree Community Church. Children are bussed to Reynolds Elementary School (K to Grade 6) in Prawda and to Whitemouth School (Grade 7 to 12). East Braintree is situated on Provincial Road 308 which is an access to the USA. Residents travel to Kenora, Ste. Anne, Steinbach, Whitemouth or Winnipeg for their shopping or medical needs.
